Awesome article.

One of the best things to do in South Africa in Summer is to barbecue. This is called a braai (pronounce bri)

You'll love Boerewors (Pronounced Boo -ra-Vors), biltong and Droëwors. (Pronounced Droo-wa Vors).

I have been asked a few times what biltong is. In my best explanation, I can say it's similar to beef jerky, it's basically raw meat that has been salted & dried. Droëwors is the boerewors that goes through a similar process as biltong.

Try the bobotie recipe, it's awesome. One of my friends are married to a lady from Oklahoma and she loves bobotie.

Hi
As a South African I am biased but I have to make one correction. Anytime is a good for a braai in South Africa. The winters here are phenomenal - like today, 29 July 2008 - it is considered mid-winter and in KZN, the temperature is about 26 degrees celcius. There is wall to wall blue sky and once the sun sets, it does get a little chilly but then you pop out the red wine, or even old brown sherry, put on a log fire, and you are a for away.

Boerewors, Droewors, Bobotie, Samp and Beans, Potato Bake, Butternut, caramalised walnuts and camembert salads, milk tart, Oma's Buttermilk Rusks, Koeksisters, Cottage Pie with sweetcorn mashed potato, - gosh you name it, we have it here in SA and they ALL taste AWESOME.
