Slovenian - As with most Eastern European countries, if you don't speak the local language, German is a good backup. A good amount of Slovenian speak some English though, and some also speak Italian.

Nice article but I have to disagree on the point of language understanding - I travelled almost across whole Europe and I have to say, Sloveians speak English best of whole Eastern Europe, and most of them do aswell; I guess you'll be able to help yourself with German language only in NE part of the country and Italian by the western Italian border...

Hello! I am from Slovenia and it's a very nice country. In this article you can read something about Ljubljana but Maribor isn't mentioned. Maribor is the second biggest city in Slovenia and it has the oldest grapewine in the world. Also very beautiful is Bled and the lake there. You can go around with a plane and see it in another view.

1. almost everybody speaks English
2. the prices have risen a lot lately
3. there are tons of sights in Ljubljana:
- the castle
- Prešeren square (the main square)
- open market (especially on weekend mornings)
- lots of small streets
- parks etc.
4. the caves are an incredible sight (Postojna cave especially)
5. you can get traditional food, but it's the best outside Ljubljana, in smaller villages!
6. anyway, perfect place for a vacation, you get everything from the seaside, karst caves, mountains, plains, rivers and lots more on a tiny space :)
