The taxis in Kuala Lumpur you must insist you sue meter. Minimum is RM$2.00. for a about 5kilo it could cost about RM$5.00. But for airport and some dedicated service taxi is a flat rate discussed before entry.
The exchange rate for US$1 is RM$3.60.

there are 2 airport in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. if u direct from USA so must be to KLIA, if u via Sounth East Asia with budget airline then mayb can drop u @ LCCT.
(I)
Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA):
that is a train (KLIA Express) link u to town center with around RM40 per pax. taxi is around RM80 per cab to town for 2~3 pax
taxi fare (not pay to taxi driver) : have to buy the coupon from the Airport then hand the coupon to taxi driver. Price are standard & fixed by the Kuala Lumpur Airport.
(II)
LCCT (Low Cost Carrier Terminal) Airport:-
RM9 by Shuutle Bus per pax to Center Kuala Lumpur
taxi is almost the same like KLIA (RM80 per taxi, pay & get the coupon @ the airport)

budget airline : Air Asia

Malaysia Airlines

both airline is having a great promotion at the moment. u may check it out.... its pretty great deal... some asian destination even come with "O Fair" just pay for the airport Tax.

accommodation for american with US$ is pretty ok in Kula Lumpur. US$25~35 u can get a pretty good & safe hotel in the Heart of Town for 2 pax/per room.

u can get a good hotel @ Tune Hotel Kuala Lumpur. Good place to stay also can definitely choose Bukit Bintang, International Youth Hostel at Cheras can consider but the location & transportation a bit challenge, price ofcos is very very low with US$.

Can get me @ facebook too : dennis wong STWW

Cheers & welcome u to Malaysia.

for cab inside KL, no matter where you go, it would be less than 15 RM, and 1 USD is about 3.5 RM.

Yes,. the things you may need attention here in KL is the TAXI fare. You have to be careful because some (I can say that most) taxi driver will ask for the fare they prefer, especially at Pudu Raya. Please insist to use the 'meter'. For example, a journey from Chinatown to KLCC (Twin Tower) will not cost more then RM 12.00.
Even the crime rate is low here, you also have to be careful with pick pocket. There are not many of them... but they still around. The exchange rate from USD now is RM 3.6 = USD 1

if u want go to malaysia.. it's is a very cheap destination 2 go.. 1 USD is around RM3.50. the taxi fare is RM 2.00 for 1 km (i think.. hehehe) the place you should go the paradise of shopping like pavillion, klcc, times square... at petaling street, you will get the cheapest price for anything from handbegs to shoes but be careful, if u want 2 deal something, make sure you deal to the lower price.
