Hi! Is that true that the official currency of Ecuador is US Dollar? does it mean that I can use regular USA dollars in Ecuador or there is difference....
p.s. What is traditional Ecuadorian food? |

Hi. Its true. You can use you money in dollars to pay anything in Ecuador, there are not difference at all.

you can use US dollars in the whole country... So yes, you can use regular US Dollars bills and coins here.
If you are planning a visit to Quito, you will have tons of things to do around Quito, like visiting thermal baths at Papallacta wich are about 1 1/2 hours far from quito; cloud forest in Mindo where you can do treks to visit waterfalls and watch hummingbirds and butterflies in the different places you can find all around the place; Also closer to the city you can go to the middle of the world (The Equator) and see the monument that is set there where you can find out about the different ethnic groups the country have within its land.
The food you can find in the highlands, wich is where quito is located, are so interesting like roasted guinea pig, and baked pork that is usually eaten with potatos, lettece, tomatoes, and onions... and many other meals you can find like llapingachos wich is another traditional meal from the hoghlands with potato pancakes with some cheese in the middle along with fried eggs, saussage, and a salad like the one i described before.
On the coast you will find a diferent variety of food and stuff to do.

The currency is the US Dollar, there only difference is that there are coins that worth 5, 10 and 50 cents that can be used only in Ecuador.
The traditional food varies on the region. In the highlands they it guinea pig and potatoe soup mixed with cow blood, among other things. In the coast they eat lots of fish prepared in several ways and in the amazon they eat the wildlife. |

sometimes people can give you some coins that are used just inside ecuador, so you should spend them here before return to your country or change them at the Banco Central of Ecuador for coins of USA... about the food we have a widely gastronomy that includes beef, pork, flesh, etc with all the dishes that people have listed before...about the tips on the article, they are very good and useful, you should take it. |

The article is very accurate, you can tell it was written by someone who lives in Quito, as other people mentioned, although we use the US Dollar as currency, we have some coins that you can only use inside Ecuador which are equivalent to 5, 10 and 50 cents. Be sure to spend those before you leave unless you want to take them as souvenirs because they're pretty much useless outside Ecuador.
