Considering the overall tourist offer, Croatia is too expensive and quality of service very low.
I rather spend my holidays abroad.

going for high quality, lazy sunbathing surrounded by servants serving cold cocktails, croatia has still a lot to develop (value for money).

however, for a not so lazy, low budget visitor looking for pure life in pure nature, there are thousands of options to sleep cheap and enjoy a lot more than in any other european country.

if you look for "miami-" or "monacostyle" one better goes there.

Traditional croatian food is SARMA (meatball in cabbagge).
These are rather good travel tips, but it is pays off even more to know someone in Croatia that you can visit and who can give you good advice.
Croatia is beautiful, for me it's the most beautiful country in the world!

Hello from Zagreb... Article is good and realistic...
Everybody interested to come here is welcome, but as always there is some more expensive and less expensive places :) Zagreb is less expensive then Budapest, Zurich, Berlin etc etc... Hotels are expensive, but I hear hostels are great. Good food and lots of partying places are common throughout Croatia! So... Come come and you will have the fun of your life!

I agree with the travel tips...
the nicest way to get to know Croatia is to travel with a car or bus. Buy a good travel guide and discover all by your self. You can sleep in rooms or apartments on your way, you just need to ask in the private houses with the sings "rooms" if they have a free room to rent.
The hotels in Croatia are very expensive and the service isnt the best, or you need to pay very much to get a good service. Dubrovnik and Hvar are really expensive, so take care, its sometimes 2 or 3 x more expensive than in other towns.
Croatia is a wonderful country you have the sea(very clean and clear), the sun, mountains, historic places and buildings, national parks, its a good mixture between old and modern and if you feel like relaxing you can find quit places but if you feel like partying you can have that too.

I am from Croatia, and i can say that this travel tips is ok! Dubrovnik is really nice place but except cultural heritage you got nothing, nightlife is ridiculous! Hvar is ok but nothing special, island Pag and Zrće is party place, this is for really crazy party people! its not to expensive!! I recomend Istra, towns Pula, Opatija, Poreć, this is cool places, nice peole, ok prices!
Makarska riviera is ok, there is cool fishmans places with cheap apartmans, peacefool, clean sea. This places is Podgora, Igrane Brela Tučepi: itd
Town Split got cool nightlife and its beautiful place, since Roman empire, and its close to Makarska rivera!
thats it from me

I'm not Croat(I am but from Bosnia, that's to complicate to explain to someone who's not from here )anyway,I live here and my opinions about the country are more great than is enough.
Croatia is very beautiful country and has very long history.
I don't think so that SARMA is Croatian national food, maybe HARAMBASCICI very similar to SARMA but not the same.I can go on on but I won't do that.
Better way come here and have a fun.
You should start from Split a town on Dalmatian cost http://www.split.hr/:)
see you around!!!!

I agree with those tips. I come from a small seaside town near Dubrovnik and I can guarantee you that it is beautiful and not so expencive. My advice is to see Korcula island and town of Korcula, it is near Dubrownik and it looks like small Dubrovnik, and near that is peninsula Peljesac where you can try the most famous wines in Croatia.
Go around with buses or take cheap flights to Zadar or Pula which are beautiful towns by the sea, and not so expencive.
Traditional food is fish and homegrown vegetables if we are talking about seaside.

i agree with the article on almost everything: croatia is beautiful an it is possible to get off cheaply - prices in the famed tourist destinations are ridiculous, but if you make your own arrangements, avoid expensive hotels, use public transport, go backpacking etc... i personally think that the best time for a visit is summer or spring, and that the best places to visit are the seaside and the islands.
oh... and i'm from a coastal town, but i live ine the capital so i know what i'm talking about :)

I am from Croatia, traditional Croatian food depend of region you are in.. on the coast fishes, octopus, sea food, lobster, lamb on broach and under the bell.. on the north meals from all sorts of meat and vegetables..sarma is just one of them.
Croatia is beautiful for people which know what they want. Maybe the best way is to rent a car.
On the north are old castles from 13 century like Trakoscan next Varazdin.. Half hour away there is Zagreb the capital, you should go see Plitvicka jezera (jezera=lakes) on your way to coast.. There are nice traditional restaurants on your way to coast..Than you can chose city or place like Zadar,Split, Dubrovnik or whatever city you like with clean sea, nice food, traditional music like Klapa Maslina and very old history. you can see more then 1000 islands..
