Rio de Janeiro is one of the most beautiful cities in Brazil with certainty is a place of warm and friendly people, I live here and even with a reputation of being a violent city, I believe so in every major city ... there is safe anywhere in the mundo.Quem is visiting Brazil give a hint, visit Arraial do Cabo in the region of lakes, a small town, but of incomparable beauty, with beaches, crystalline waters and calm. |

I believe it's as safe to take a taxi in Rio as anywhere in the world (except, of course, those messy places in Middle East).
The worse that can happen is the driver decide to try a longer way than what's necessary, only to get some more money. And as tourists usually aren't familiar with the city, they would never realize if the driver is playing or not this little trick. Besides this, everything is OK. |

Yes, it is safe to use taxi here, actually it´s one of the safest ways to know the city. But be careful with the ones you catch on the airport ou bus station, they can be expensiver. Always prefer radio taxis.
The subway information of this article is old! Now the Metro costs R$2,60, the single ticket. You can buy the integrated ticket too, it´s a little bit expensiver, like R$3,10, but you can get the subway and a integrated bus too, and these buses are better than the regular one and they have a route map. The metro operates now from mon-sat from 5am to midnight, and Sundays and holidays from 7am to 11pm. |
