Barbados Island Guide
Submitted by Olivia on 2008-09-29 03:43:11 (via www.barbadostraveltips.net)
The island is well developed, and there are internationally-known hotels offering world-class accommodation. Time-shares are available, and many of the smaller local hotels and private villas which dot the island have space available if booked in advance.

Yes. I am a Barbadian, or 'Bajan' as we call ourselves. It is really our Afro-Caribbean descent that makes our island so unique. From the rhythm in our steps to the beats in our music, to the drawl of our sweet accent; we are truly the 'Gem of the Caribbean'. Not to mention our blue skies and seas and our yellow-brown sands. Our people are very warm and friendly but we do value manners greatly. We were a British colony until 1966 when we became an independent nation able to run our own affairs. Our literacy rate is over 96% and we value education very much. In terms of the scenery-it is like no other. Lush green pastures, cool sweet sea breezes, coconut trees which play in the wind, beautiful flowers and great sounds. There is a rich atmosphere unique to Barbados. Food is wonderful-it is not too sweet or salty but very well seasoned and tasty. Imagaine eating a plate of rice and stew, grilled vegetables and steak fish fresh from the sea. Most importantly, we are easy-going people who value family, our faith, and living full lives. We tend to see the big picture and worry less about the little things in life. We think more that life is not promised so we should just smile and enjoy our time on this earth!! Let me just tell all who are wondering, Bajans welcome you with open arms and as we would say "Go long and enjoy yuhself!!!"

Hi!

I am from the states originaly and have only lived here one year. I do like Bajan cooking, the fish and steamed "ground provisions" taste great and are so good for you. However, the service people in the industry here can come off as very slow and rude. Unless you are dinning at an expensive restaurant dont expect very good service. All my life i have worked in restaurants/hotels and have always greeted my costumers with a smile and done my best to give them good service. Here in Barbados people do not want to work and they have a bad attitude about it but you will find that on many islands in the Carib. I know from experience because I have also lived in the USVI. I do hope you visit Barbados and have a great trip;)

There are plenty places to shop...Bridgetown is a very nice place to shop,It has all types of stores there,also..there's a place on the south coast called st.lawerence gap,u could get stuff there as well,on friday nights there's usually a fish fry at a place called OISTINS.U get nice fish and tar tar sauce there and so on u must try it.Do not hezatate to ask questions while in Barbados, the people here are very helpful.U can also go to tours like the ISLAND SAFARI,ATLANTIC SUBMARINES,GLORY TOURS and many more,so stop wondering and come to Barbabados and enjoy your self,u would not be dissapointed.

HI, i am Wayne. From Barbados i live here, an in traveling.I have met people who dream of someday visiting this paradise so i say to you ,fullfill your dream.B
arbados is a wonderful little island with a low crime rate a high standard of living comparable to that in most develope countries in the world.
There are lot of interesting activities an restaurants to choose from an locals are very friendly i would warn you however to be careful with the boys u spend most of their lives on the beach an in tourist areas trying to pick up a white chick.
For good information on barbados where to go and what to do where to stay (..Barbados.
org..).
i have travel throughout the caribbean an i swear not because i am barbadian but honest you should really check the island out.
I find that when i compare the service it's a lot more sluggish compared to when i am in North America but if you visit the top restaurants etc you are sure of excellent service the fast food restaurants i really think its fast food cause u dont have to cook it but the service could be better.

HMMM look at these awesome pictures http://www.picturesofplaces.com/Caribbean/barbados.html and preveiw the beautiful places you will experience on your vacation in Barbados

Barbados is the Gem of the Caribbean , I have been living here for 20 years and life in Barbados is so different to any other place i have been to .I as a bajan use to brag and say that Barbados is the worst place ever because at that time i had not really experienced what else is out there. From being to other Caribbean Island i realise why Barbados is loved so much, 24/7 entertainment, the world of singers, nightclubs, formal restaurants ,hotels, fastfood restaurants, Chinese Restaurants,The sealife surfing,Sailing,Scuba Diving, viewing the sea Turtles that nest on the island and mingle along the shore, The Golden sand,The fresh Air, The Beautiful Scenery, Flora and Fauna, Caves. Barbados is #1 miss it and blame yourself It's the Beauty of a Dream Come True
