The drinking water is potable but does not taste to good. Mosquitoes are a problem for some people, you need to have some DEET. American Samoa is pretty safe and most local people are helpful. You will enjoy yourself. |

Well theres nothing wrong with the water. Theres a resturant called dont drink water, it doesnt mean anything though. The water is good. And yes there are mosquitoes, but not everywhere. It lives back near mountains and where water are held and stored. Bottom-Line, yes you are going to have the most memorable time in American Samoa. And if you plan to visit our other sisterly coundtries Manu'a, Samoa or Savai'i you will also have a blast there as well. I hopw you will enjoy your stay in our BEAUTIFUL ISLAND of paradise and entertainment... God Bless ya... |

The water is pretty safe to drink here, if you're still iffy about it, there's alot of stores you can buy bottled water from. The mosquitoes are pretty bad for new comers, so do come prepared with some OFF! or if not, there's mosquito repellent here also. Make sure you visit Tisa's Barefoot Bar for an unforgettable experience. You can also visit Aunu'u by boat. Make sure you visit the national park, the Fagatele Marine Sanctuary and the Turtle and Shark look out. |

Hello there, If you're a planning a trip to American Samoa don't hesitate or have any any doubt about coming. It's a beautiful island. The water too is healthy but it all depends on how your system will respond to it. The stores on island are much cheaper commpare to Hawaii and in the mainland. I mean the prizes are too high. We also have cool places for surfing, more cool beaches. There's this place called Tisa's barefoot where you can have a real island style tatoo. Just come and enjoy the beautiful view of American Samoa. I have families too in Apia and Savai'i but then we won't get off until the 5th of June. I'll be visiting my grandmother in Savai'i and spend my summer there. I'm familiar with both islands. Just ask me and I will tell you. In Apia, just don't carry your wallet with you when you go clubbing or maybe to the market for shopping. Let me know if you get this. |

there are a lot of things you need to watch out for in terms of safety and other things as well. the american samoan people have their own stories about their land and stuff, and you have to be careful of certain lands. you need to respect people and their properties because you'll never know something bad might happen to you.
the water.....well so far there are no problems with the water.
however it's always best to be safe, so just boil your water.
mosquitoes, well there is a problem concerning mosquitoes. mosquitoes (female) are said to be carrying the dangey fever or something like that.
but other than that it's a pretty good place. shoot i grew up in american samoa and i'm still living here.
the people are helpful just don't go asking a drunk samoan for help. |

Well honestly, the water is pretty safe out here. American Samoa is a beautiful place and pretty enjoyable if i might say. The mosquitoes are a killer but it all depends on where you stay.... but to be on the safe side, always have a bottle of OFF spray( Mosquitoes repellent). Well if you plan on visiting American Samoa, then i kid you not, this place is amazing!... lived here for awhile now and it's a place where you can escape from the world and just try something different!... but if you have more questions that needs to be answered than please feel free to call... always willing to help out a tourist.... Our water is as clear as they come... I do think you should bring bug spray cuz our mosquitoes are none too friendly with outsiders. The locals have no problem however I would probably bring bug spray if I were you. It happens to Samoans who have never been here before, those who were raised off island or in the main land... We are the "americanized" version of Samoa. Almost like Hawaii but we've sustained most of our culture and our language. People who visit say we're friendly so I hope your visit will confirm that. Other than that have a safe, enjoyable trip to our beautiful island...

Apia is a beautiful island and Savaii more beautiful. You've picked the right places to stay also. Make sure that you convert your USD into the Samoa Tala, because once they see the USD, they tend to raise prices on everything. Haggle with the prices if you think that they are trying to pull a fast one. Taxi's are the best way to get anywhere in Apia, and the prices for taxis to anywhere in town in the most Five Tala, don't go any higher. In American Samoa, Sadie's is the expensive hotel. If you want to experience American Samoa, there is the Le Faipule Lodge, Tisa's Barefoot Bar and Le Moana Beach resort. The best way to travel in American Samoa is the aiga bus. You can catch them from anywhere and stop them anywhere. It is pretty safe for you to travel here, just be aware that there are crimes here as well, not as prevalent, but there still is. Hope you enjoy your stay and hopefully we bump into each other here in Pago. |

Olivia and Teine_Samoa got it right - I live here as well. It's a beautiful island and they all are in their own way. Take time out to snorkel as well if you can, but make sure to check in with locals that know the ocean and yes, you will be safe here.
Enjoy your trip and the beautiful islands! |

I am Samoan born and raised.
My only point of advice is that if you are going to travel alone, do not tell anyone until u are certain they are trustworthy. Samoa is just like anywhere else. enjoy everything but remember it better to be safe than sorry.
Oh, and if u are going to do alot of walking, take a long walking stick. its good for support and keeping dogs away.

American Samoa is a beautiful place. There are mosquittoes but is not a problem here. The water is drinkable and also there are bottled water from the US being sold here. Bring a lot of shorts, T-shirts, slippers. It's not that expensive here. Alot of clothes, food, water, liquor, beer are imported from the US. Just come and see for your self...take a stroll at night in the cool air with the palm trees swaying and you'll see that it's going to take your breath away...Tofa |

Don't hesitate to come. The island is beautiful. About mosquitoes? We do have mosquitoes but the only come out when it is dark. The was is safe to drink but it all depends on how your system will take it. We have many places for sight seeing, and for surfing too. Tisa's Barefoot is another cool place where you can spend you night and experience to island lyphe style. YOu can also get a tatoo there if you want. We don't use machines like what they're using in the mainland and other countries. Experience the true samoan tatoo.."no pain, no gain." I also have families in Apia and Savai'i. I will go there during summer to visit my grandmother. June 5th, 2009. See ya!!!!! |

I've lived here my whole life. BORN N RAISED! American Samoa is very beautiful and the tourists that come from far & wide comment on how well the people treat them and how beautiful the island. We as SAMOANS take pride in our island, culture and heritage. We treat you the way we want to be treated, with respect and courtesy. Our people are of the pacific and tie together with other islanders in spreading the ALOFA (love) to others who come to our shores.
The water is safe, but like what others say, there are plenty of stores to purchase bottled water. The one thing I can probably tell others from off-island about American Samoa, you'll leave the islands SATISFIED, HAPPY, LOVED and FULL to your belly with FOOD FOOD and more FOOD! There are lot of attractions to see in the back villages to explore the old Samoa and modern Samoa.
Really consider on coming to American Samoa, it's an experience worth living over and over again!
